Kent's primary academic areas of interest are described on the research page, but basically he is interested in "all things audio". His publications investigate human perception of sound recording technologies.
In 2007 Kent was awarded a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada Doctoral Fellowship based on his research profile and artistic achievement. He has also been awarded graduate scholarships from the Audio Engineering Society (AES) and McGill University. Recordings he made as a graduate student have received awards from Down Beat Magazine and the AES. Kent is a student member of the AES and has served as chair of the McGill University AES student section.
